This way Slumdog Millionaire changed lives of child stars

The super duper success of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ has dramatically improved the bleak lifestyle of child stars Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail, with both being enrolled full-time in school, and are living in far better conditions than before.

While Ismail has been shifted into an apartment, Rubina and her family are still on the Garib Nagar slum but have dramatically upgraded their home.

However, they are waiting to be moved into a modern apartment.

Rubina, who played the role of young Latika in the Oscar winning film, which tracked the story of an 18 year old boy from rags-to-riches, has done an advertisement with Hollywood star Nicole Kidman.

She has also become the youngest person in publishing history to write a memoir titled ‘Slumgirl Dreaming’, which has sold 200,000 copies worldwide so far.

Both the actors have been receiving a monthly allowance equivalent to 75 pounds each through a charitable trust developed by director Danny Boyle.

But they only get the money if their attendance record at school is above 70 per cent.

“Last year, people would throw rubbish at me, but now the garbage man collects it from my new house and people are very good to me”, said 10 year old Azharuddn.

Meanwhile, slums shown in the film will soon be redeveloped.

The value of plots will multiply by five and the Nagar slum will become the first rubbish-free slum in Mumbai after builders start work.

Rubina Ali to publish memoir

Slumdog Millionaire’s nine-year-old star Rubina Ali is ready to tell her life story.

The Mumbai resident, who played the young Latika in director Danny Boyle’s Oscar winning movie, is penning a memoir.

The book, Dreaming: My Journey to the Stars, will chronicle her story of growing up in the Mumbai slums instead of her rise to fame.

"Rubina brings alive a world of wastelands and rat-infested shanty dwellings, and shows us her home, a wooden shack with a tarpaulin roof, where she grew up with her beloved father and siblings," said a statement released by Transworld Publishers.

The tome will be released in the UK mid July.

Proceeds from the book will be donated to Ali and Medecins du Monde, a French medical aid organization.

Danny Boyle to rescue homeless Slumdog kids

Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle is flying to India to rescue child stars Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail.

Both the child stars’ were rendered homeless after Mumbai authorities torn down their shanties following a slum clearance drive.

Boyle fears that lives of Azharuddin, 10, and Rubina, 9 are spiralling downwards despite their Oscars success.

He had set up a 500,000 pounds trust to help them in education and give them apartments.

Rubina Ali being sold by father, mom files complain

Slumdog Millionaire child artist - Rubina Ali’s mother Khurshid Qureshi was very upset by the news of her daughter being sold. She lodged a complaint with police following media reports on Sunday afternoon against her husband who had allegedly attempted to sell their daughter.

Following the complaint, police summoned Rubina and her father Rafiq Qureshi to the police station. When Rubina was asked she showed no interst to go anywhere, and wants to live with her father. Similarly, Rafiq Qureshi also said that he has no intentions of selling her.

Khurshid has alleged that Rafiq and his second wife Meena were always crazy for money and now that Rubina has achieved international fame, they want to capitalise on it.

She was heard saying that Rafiq had offered to sell his daughter to the News of the World’s undercover reporters posing as a wealthy family from Dubai for 200,000 pounds.

Child actress Rubina Ali who played young Latika in the Oscar winning film - Slumdog Millionaire has been put on sale by her greedy dad. In a bid to cash in on Rubina's international stardom her father Rafiq Qureshi has put her for adoption.

They were approached by one wealthy Middle Eastern family who saw their plight in an item on Al Jazeera TV. The couple expressed an interest in adopting young Rubina and her parent’s eyes lit up. He is demanding nearly 200,000 pounds.

Rubina’s family are furious that despite the film being a great success and their pretty daughter becoming so famous, they are still living in such rough conditions. Dad Rafiq knows that soon his daughter’s success will be forgotten and her moment of fame will be over. He has a family to feed and simply can’t afford it.

The Middle East family was moved to tears by the plight of the young orphans and fell in love with Rubina. This family wanted to take Rubina abroad. The approach has made Rafiq very greedy and he has said that he will consider the highest offer for his child.
