Pamela Anderson named Person of the Year by PETA
Pamela Anderson - Person of the YearPamela Anderson has been named the Person of the Year by PETA for her tireless work to end cruelty against animals. The former ‘Baywatch’ star has been an active campaigner for animal rights over the years and her work has now been recognised by PETA. "For years, Anderson has been penning letters and posing in ads for PETA UK’s American affiliate in order to raise awareness of cruelty to animals and demonstrate how easy it is to avoid contributing to animal suffering," said a spokesperson for the animal rights group. She was awarded the title after a year in which she drew attention to animal rights issues by speaking to students at the Oxford University.

She also posed for pictures with her body painted in butcher markings, and filmed a TV commercial in which she strip-searches plane passengers for hidden furs and pelts.

The vegetarian actress-model also adopted stray dogs from an animal shelter and called on leaders in India to ban the country’s "unspeakably cruel" trade in leather.

Pamela Anderson’s ad rejected at Hong Kong airport
Pamela AndersonAn advertisement featuring a scantily clad Pamela Anderson has been rejected by Hong Kong airport, animal protection campaigners have said. The commercial is the latest to be made by the group People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in their long-running campaign against the use of animal furs and skins in fashion. In it, the former Baywatch star is seen dressed in a revealing airport security guard uniform stopping people and stripping them of leather belts and shoes and fur coats. The advertisement, titled "Cruelty Doesn’t Fly", also features comedians Steve-O, Andy Dick and Carol Leifer, a pair of models and Nina Hagen. PETA had hoped to place the advert on large-screen televisions throughout Hong Kong International Airport over the peak, year-end holiday period when more than 100,000 people a day pass through the airport. However, JCDecaux, the company that manages the advertising concession at the airport, rejected the advertisement as inappropriate.

"Given the groping that you see at security checkpoints that you see in body scans, we’re surprised that our light-hearted ad was deemed too risque, PETA Asia vice president Jason Baker said.

PETA said it hoped to place the ad in Berlin, Tokyo and Sydney and in airports in the US, but Hong Kong had been the first to reject it.

This year, an advertisement featuring longtime PETA supporter Anderson in a bikini with her body marked to show cuts of meats, similar to posters seen in butchers, was banned in Montreal.

Pamela to raise awareness about Hepatitis
Pamela AndersonPamela Anderson has taken up the task of raising awareness about hepatitis among people. The former "Baywatch" star, who was diagnosed with a strain of the liver disorder back in 2001 after contracting it through a shared tattoo needle, urges people to get tested, saying there is nothing to feel embarrassed. "I’ve had liver biopsies. I get checked every single year, my doctor told me just keep doing what you’re doing. I also have the kind that’s easiest to control," she said.

"There is no cure for it, so the important thing is to encourage people to get tested and not be ashamed. People get embarrassed as you get it from blood-to-blood contact, but it’s not just junkies who have it," she added.

Pamela Anderson slammed for donating pay cheque to charity
Pamela AndersonPamela Anderson has been blasted by an Islamic rights group for donating her $25,000 Playboy modelling fee to charity as the money was obtained through "immoral acts". Anderson posed for the January 2011 issue of the men’s magazine and handed the pay cheque to Waves 4 Water - a charity that distributes filters to people who don’t have access to clean drinking water in countries like Indonesia and Haiti.

Officials of the Islamic Defenders Front are fuming over the donation, claiming it is "against the law of God" to hand the modelling money to charity.

Habib Umar Salim of the Islamic Defenders Front said: "If she wants to be photographed naked, then she is challenging a bigger disaster to happen in Indonesia. It’s haram."

US airports ban Pamela Anderson ads
Pamela Anderson for PETAAmerican airport bosses have banned a new animal rights commercial featuring former 'Baywatch' babe Pamela Anderson because it’s too raunchy.

Advertising chiefs at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) filmed a promo in which the actress stars as a scantily-clad flight security guard who strips passengers of fur and leather.

The ad was due to be shown at New York City’s three airports but bosses pulled the plug over fears the racy film will offend passengers with young children.

A representative for CNN Airport Network wrote to PETA bosses to explain the commercial is "particularly sensitive because children make up part of the demographic in airports".

The animal rights group is now hoping to show the film on in-flight entertainment.

Pam bikinis racy for conservative Kiwis
Pamela AndersonPamela Anderson’s promoter has shared his concern that her itsy-bitsy bikinis may be a tad too much for the conservative Kiwis to handle at their fashion week.

Anderson, 42, is set to bring some of her own skimpy swimwear range, Muse, co-designed by Richie Rich, into New Zealand fashion week this September.

The new label is “eco animal-friendly” in keeping with Anderson’s vegetarian and pro-animal rights stance.

But Anderson’s Miami publicist Brian Long, who brokered the deal, said he wonders whether New Zealand, with its “relaxed approach” to celebrity, was ready for the blonde bombshell.

New Zealand has not always embraced the celebrity thing like other fashion weeks do around the world so it is a little bit out of the ordinary. But being an eco-friendly line it seemed a good fit with New Zealand.

The line is more casual, and fashion-wise. New Zealand tends to be a little bit more casual than other places, though the bathing suits might be a bit skimpy for the Kiwis.
