Raveena Tandon To Exhibit Her Wildlife Photography

Actress Raveena Tandon will showcase her wildlife photographs alongside the works of 75 wildlife photographers for a cause. Raveena, in support of Sarita Subramaniam and P V Subramaniam, is joining an organisation to help avert water crisis in wildlife sanctuaries.

The actress said, "Wildlife is my passion and capturing moments on camera is sheer thrill. The excitement and love for the forest and to conserve what we have on our beautiful planet with it's beautiful creatures, which man is slowly destroying, is what draws me to support and take up initiatives like Project Aquarius."

The exhibition titled H2PHOTO will begin at Jehangir Art Gallery from May 25 and will conclude on May 29. The proceeds from the sale will go towards installing solar pump sets at wildlife sanctuaries to help revive depleting watering holes.

Raveena said, "Conservation is absolutely the need of the hour as a lot of species are already extinct and we are on the verge of losing many more of these beautiful beasts to the war between man and animal."

"By destroying forests we are destroying the very base of mankind's existence as we are upsetting the whole ecological cycle. Every creature was put on this planet for a reason and human beings need to fulfill their purpose of existence by saving Mother Earth. We are in reality actually saving ourselves."

Sarita and PV Subramaniam have earlier raised funds to provide solar powered pumps to borewells that supply water to the watering holes at Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka.

They said in a joint statement that their new effort is for the water woes animals have in forests.

They said they felt touched by Raveena and the other photographers' spontaneous gesture of extending support to the cause.

Raveena Tandon spreads safe motherhood message

Newly-appointed UNICEF brand ambassador and actress Raveena Tandon says safe motherhood does not come at a high cost.

It is a misconception that poverty is the cause behind women dying due to problems arising out of childbirth and pregnancy, the actress said.

"A simple folic acid tablet that costs anywhere between Rs 3-5 can prevent serious problems. The important thing is to ensure that the basic needs of a woman are fulfilled," she said.

Measures like providing a woman with an extra meal to ensure healthy nutrition, adequate spacing between two children, and avoiding early marriages can go a long way in saving the mother, she pointed out.

As many as 78,000 women die in the country every year due to ignorance.

Raveena Tandon refused to be Ajay Devgan's mom in Rajneeti

Prakash Jha's 'Rajneeti' was to be Raveena Tandon's dream comeback but the actress quit the project once she learnt that she would have to play Ajay Devgan's mother. 'You can't blame me for saying no to playing mother to an actor with whom I co-starred in so many films. But I had a bigger reason for my refusal. The film required me to leave Mumbai for two months at a stretch. Both my children are too young to be left behind for such a long time, especially since they don't even go to school yet,' told Raveena. Raveena was expected to play the role of an all-powerful politician in director Prakash Jha's 'Rajneeti', inspired by late prime minister Indira Gandhi's life and times. Raveena was to play Ranbir Kapoor's mother. And Ranbir's role resonated the life of Rajiv Gandhi.

Raveena, who had earlier played a politician in 'Satta', had several meetings with Jha and both of them were excited about it.

Raveena had to age from 20 to 60. Her makeup, saris and styling were all finalised. Until she realised the role required her to play not just Ranbir's mom but also Ajay's mother.

That's when the National Award winning actress decided to back out, thereby halting her spectacular comeback plans.

“Prakash Jha offered me the role in 'Rajneeti”. And what a role! I've the highest regards for Prakash. And when I met him for this part, I realised he's even bigger a visionary than I thought.

'He's meant to not just make films but be a national leader. He's absolutely the right person to direct a subject like 'Rajneeti'. I'd have given anything to return to cinema with this project, specially since he insisted I was his first and best choice,' the actress said.

Raveena, who was last seen in the 2006 dud 'Sandwich', is ready to return to the big screen. But she will only do a film that requires her to shoot in and around Mumbai. The actress is best remembered for her hits like 'Mohra', 'Andaz Apna Apna' and 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan'.

As for the role of the female politician in Rajneeti, Jha is now thinking of casting either Tisca Chopra or Mrinal Kulkarni.
