Gisele Bundchen not among world’s top five models in demand
Gisele BundchenGisele Bundchen, Kate Moss, and Claudia Schiffer may be well known, but their names do not figure anywhere on the list of the world’s top five most in-demand models by industry standards. The list features rather less familiar names like Anja Rubik (26), Freja Beha Erichsen (23), Lara Stone (27), Abbey Lee Kershaw (24), and Constance Jablonski (20). The five alone have collectively appeared on 265 magazine covers, walked 232 catwalk shows and have 115,000 Twitter followers. A survey by Fashion Spot showed, Polish model Rubik was the most in-demand girl between April 2010 and April this year, and she has posed on an impressive 59 magazine covers, and appeared on 43 designers’ runways.

But that is a small workload compared to Constance Jablonski, who walked for an impressive 83 designers in the past year alone. That is in addition to appearing on 46 magazine covers.

Lara Stone, the Dutch-born model wife of comedian David Walliams, ranked third in the list, but due to her contract with Calvin Klein, her appearances have been fewer than her peers, with only two runway shows and 47 magazine covers.

Danish model Freja Beha Erichsen is one of the industry’s most popular names, having landed high-profile campaigns for Chanel and Valentino. In addition to appearing on 65 different covers and in 51 shows, she also starred in a short film by Karl Lagerfeld.

Melbourne-born Abbey Lee Kershaw rounds out the top five. She has also modelled for Chanel, as well as Tom Ford, and has been hailed Australia’s biggest model export since Elle Macpherson.

Claudia Schiffer launches mum-friendly fashion line
Claudia SchifferSupermodel and super-mom Claudia Schiffer has launched her new cashmere collection in Paris during Haute Couture fashion week with the hope that her brand will spice up the fashion taste of other mothers. The 40-year-old former ‘Chanel’ muse said at designer store Colette that she always wanted to get into fashion design and had finally decided to launch her own brand that will flaunt the kind of clothes she wears all the time as a working mother, such as cashmere dresses and sweaters. “I am always very busy, I have a family life, I want to wear the same outfit when I bring my children to school, then go to work with it - and in the evening I want to be able to just change accessories,’ said Schiffer. ‘Effortless chic. That is the idea,’ she said.

Schiffer’s collection that she created in a joint venture with Iris von Arnim, includes long tube black and navy blue dresses, grey oversized cardigans and cable-knit sweaters costing from 250 to 500 pounds.

“I want the product to live without my name so that it does not really need me. As a company, I hope it builds up over time so that one day, hopefully, I can hand it over to my children,” added Schiffer for whom the launch was a ‘dream come true’.

Claudia Schiffer not to return to the ramp
Claudia SchifferSupermodel Claudia Schiffer says nothing would ever make her return to the catwalk because she prefers to work in an environment where large groups of people aren’t looking at her. The German supermodel, who gave birth to her third child last year, says she has no interest in catwalks as she doesn’t like all eyes to be on her. "Nothing, definitely. Nobody believes me but I’m very shy, much better in small groups of people than on a stage with everybody looking at me. I understood that I had to do it when I was modelling but now, since I don’t have to do it, I’d rather not," she said.

"Designers are very clever at trying to persuade me to do it each season and it’s flattering that they do, but nothing would change my mind," she added.

Claudia Schiffer all set to create own fashion line
Claudia SchifferGerman supermodel Claudia Schiffer is all set to launch her own clothing line.

The 39 year old model has quit the catwalk and is set join the likes of Elle Macpherson, Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss with her new venture.

"I have been approached so many times over the last 20 years but it has never been the right time," said the German beauty.

"Now, I would consider it but it would have to be the right thing. They would need to be clothes that I would want to wear," she added.

Claudia Schiffer feels better at 39
Claudia SchifferGerman model Claudia Schiffer has revealed that she likes herself more now at 39, and that she feels she looks so much better too.

Schiffer, who is a mother of two, is among a number of models who have made a comeback without a wrinkle or body flaw, and she has just been announced as the face of the new Alberta Ferretti fragrance.

“Modelling was amazing for me”, said Schiffer.

“It was like therapy. My shyness is still there, but after you’ve had people telling you how fantastic you are every day, and being on the cover of magazines, it brings you out of your shell.

“I would never want to be in my twenties again; I like myself so much better today,” she added.
