Prem Chopra to get Mother Teresa Award

Prem ChopraHe played the evil anti-hero in Bollywood for decades but Prem Chopra is a gentleman off screen and the veteran will be honoured with the Mother Teresa Award for his humanitarian work and five-decade-long career. The 76-year-old who is still winning rave reviews for his film roles, said that he is humbled at being chosen for an award whose previous recipients include Rajeev Gandhi and the Dalai Lama. The actor, who has done nearly 400 films over a career spanning five decades, will receive the award at a function in Kolkata on March 3.

"I feel really happy and honoured. And this award is special as it has been instituted in the name of Mother Teresa, the saint who served the poorest of our country," said Chopra.

"I don’t believe in charity for the sake of it and do not talk about the work that I do," said Chopra, whose distinct style and one-liners including the hit, "Prem Naam hai mera... Prem Chopra", from Bobby, are recognised by film goers worldwide.
