100 diamonds in Nikki Reed’s wedding dress

Nikki Reed‘Twilight’ actress Nikki Reed reportedly wed fiance Paul McDonald in a diamond studded wedding gown. The 23-year-old’s ivory white, body-hugging dress wedding dress had a hundred diamond buttons. The couple tied the knot at a private ranch in Malibu, Calif. "We couldn’t be happier. We were surrounded by our family and friends. We’re so glad this day has come," Reed said. The actress had collaborated with bridal jewelry brand Tacori, which crafted not only the engagement and wedding bands for the couple, but her wedding gown as well. "It was a 40’s classic glamour silhouette. It flows back into a 72-inch train, about six feet. It’s extremely simple.

Instead of a traditional, silk wrap button, we did diamond buttons. A little over 100 carats just on the buttons," said Michelle Adorjan, designer at Tacori. The couple got married after dating for only two months.

Fincher said he decided against giving the role of main character Lisbeth Salander, now played by actress Rooney Mara, to the 26-year-old beauty, because people "can’t wait for her to take her clothes off". "We saw some amazing people. Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I’m telling you. But the thing with Scarlett is, you can’t wait for her to take her clothes off," Fincher said.

Before finally casting Mara in the role, Fincher said, he was worried he wouldn’t ever find the right actress to portray the character. "I had seen a lot of actresses. I was beginning to get to the point where I was thinking, ‘Maybe conceptually you are talking about a person who doesn’t exist," he added.

Indian fashion industry can’t afford me: Ujjwala Raut

Ujjwala RautUjjwala Raut has sashayed down the ramp for international luxury brands like Yves Saint-Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana and Oscar de la Renta but is hardly seen on the Indian ramp. The Indian supermodel candidly admits money is the reason. "They (Indian modelling industry) can’t afford me; that’s why I am rarely seen. Also, my involvement with ad shoots and magazine covers takes maximum time," said Raut. The leggy model shot to fame when she won Femina Look of the Year at the Miss India contest in 1996. She was just 17. The almond-eyed girl was pushed by her elder sister to join this glamorous field. "I used to be an average looking girl; so I had never thought of modelling as a career option. It was my elder sister who inspired me to get into this field. She was completely fascinated by Madhu Sapre and instructed me to follow her and that’s how my journey started," Raut recollected.

Raut has appeared on the cover of fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Marie Claire and was once the face of Yves Saint Laurent. She has also walked the ramp in Milan, Paris and New York fashion weeks.

Unfortunately, India hasn’t been able to produce any supermodel after the likes of Madhu Sapre, Milind Soman and Raut. And she blames Bollywood for it.

"The main reason why there is no supermodel left in the Indian modelling industry is the presence of Bollywood which has become an obvious career option for most models," she said.

"I never tried Bollywood because it requires a lot of attention and time which I won’t be able to give keeping in mind my other projects. In future I will definitely think about the same but no plans as of now," she added.

Currently Raut is on the judging panel of the NDTV Good Times popular reality show ‘The Hunt for the calendar girl’ 2012 along with Milind Soman and Sonam Kapoor.

Raut feels the most important thing a young model should have is right focus to excel in this business.

"I do what I want to do and I just don’t do anything and everything. There are girls who would often say ‘You are a model, I want to be a model too!’ I would tell them that modeling is not for everybody. You actually have to understand where your interest lies and what you are capable of pursuing as a profession," she said.

Raut, whose father is a cop and mother a homemaker, believes that the Indian modelling industry has increased manifold but there are miles to go before one is satisfied.

"There is no doubt that the Indian modelling industry is growing but it’s still new, while in the West it is very old. In the West, there’s much more competition because you are competing with girls from different parts of the world, whereas in India there are just a few girls from outside, rest all are just Indians," she said.

The 36-year-old stunner was caught taking dip on set by photographers in south of France recently. L’Oreal accused of whitewashing Freida Pinto in ad

Freida PintoActress Freida Pinto, has found herself in the middle of another skin lightening scandal, based a new ad photo from L’Oreal that shows the Indian beauty looking lighter-skinned than usual. The Slumdog Millionaire star, who was signed as the face of L’Oreal Paris in 2009, first appeared with a paler complexion in the official image released by L’Oreal when she was signed in 2009. However it was then confirmed that the shot was provided by Pinto’s management - and not by the skincare brand. L’Oréal's campaign for ‘Colours Take Flight’ make-up, features a close-up of the gorgeous star, showing off their range of exotic coloured eye shadows.

But the image, which is possibly a lighting effect or a Photoshop blunder, has attracted criticism from online publications and have accused L’Oreal of ‘lightening’ Freida’s skin.

The company, however, has denied any retouching. “Freida Pinto has been a spokesperson for the L’Oréal Paris brand since 2009,” said a L’Oreal spokesperson. ‘We highly value our relationship with Ms.Pinto. ‘It is categorically untrue that L’Oréal Paris altered Ms. Pinto’s features or skin-tone in the campaign for Project Runway “Colors Take Flight” limited-edition collection,” he added.

"I have come to India to launch my line of bags. I had been wanting to come to India for a very long time because it is an incredible market. But I just didn’t get time before," Hilton said at a media gathering. Dressed in a peach-pink dress which resembled the drape of a sari, Paris looked every bit of a style icon. She added an Indian touch with a three-layered uncut diamond neck piece, and completed the look with a black clutch. The 30-year-old arrived early Saturday morning, and said she was overwhelmed with the reception at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

"When I came out of the airport in the morning, there were so many people waiting...much more than what I was expecting. I can’t wait to come back!" she said.

"I am very happy to be here. India is an amazing place. I have heard from a lot of friends who have come here before that coming to India changes your life because it is a spiritual and magical place," Hilton added.

Her line of bags, launched in association with Brand Concepts Pvt Ltd, looked as stylish as her - as revealed by the sneak preview at the event. The bags, priced between Rs.2,000 and Rs.11,000, will be available at two stores in Mumbai.

However, details have been kept under wraps for now. The range boasts of clutches, totes, slings and regular handbags in colours like black, brown, white, peach-pink and silver.

News, the high-end bridal designer turned mass-market lifestyle entrepreneur is recreating two of the three gowns Kardashian wore to wed basketball player Kris Humphries, for David’s Bridal. Kardashian fans can buy a facsimile of the Vera Wang ballgown she wore for her walk down the aisle as well as a ruffled mermaid gown worn at the reception. Since Wang designed the “one-of-a-kind” gown for the wedding, these 1,600-dollar frocks will reportedly not be exact copies.

Exquisite jewellery showcased at IIJW

While jewellery was in focus at the second season of the five-day India International Jewellery Week (IIJW), the Bollywood quotient grabbed more eyeballs for the event.

Conceptualised by the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) in 2010, IIJW - that had actress Sonam Kapoor as its brand ambassador this year - had a strong Bollywood influence.

Each day witnessed at least three celebrities gracing the ramp, showcasing fine and opulent jewellery pieces.

From Hema Malini to Zeenat Aman, Bipasha Basu to Kangana Ranaut, many from Bollywood strutted down the ramp along with models.

Before the event concluded, it showcased designs of 35 jewellery designers and design houses that included Gitanjali, Amrapali, Tanishq, Rosily Paul, Agni and Lakshmi Jewellers, among others.

It was better organized this year with minimum delays in the beginning of the shows, better presentation, more glamour and better and more exquisite designs.

"We are happy by the way the event turned out to be. By and large, what we thought, we have achieved it because our participants are happy and our audiences are happy," said GJEPC chairman Rajiv Jain.

"This year we were more organized because last year was our first year and we had only three months to organize the show. This year we had the full year and secondly we were more experienced," he said.

"We worked on our shortcomings. Even the designers and all participants were totally geared up and on the whole we delivered what we thought," he added.

The aim of the event was to showcase India’s finest in jewellery, be it design, innovation, craftsmanship, technology or quality to the customers. The organizers are happy that they achieved what they set out to do.

Sonam’s name attached to the event gave it more publicity and attention.

"She added value to our event. She is a symbol of today’s youth, she is beautiful and charming. When she talks about jewellery, she talks like a jeweller. So we took the right decision by getting her on board as the brand ambassador," said Jain.

Since IIJW is not a business event, the amount of monetary benefits to participants cannot be calculated, but the platform gave them an opportunity to showcase their designs to a larger audience.

"This event is not for business. This was just for showcasing the collections. If a customer likes anyone’s collection, they can contact them and buy the pieces," Jain said.

The event saw delegates from different parts of the world, including from France, America, Italy, Hungry and Britain.

The data systems technician gained fame - and apparently a date with actress Mila Kunis - when he posted a video on YouTube last week inviting the ‘Black Swan’ star to accompany him to the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, N.C., in November. The annual event marks the founding of the Marines in 1775. Kunis learned of the video during a recent interview with her ‘Friends With Benefits’ co-star, Justin Timberlake, who urged her to fulfil her patriotic duties. Kunis agreed to the date, saying, "I’ll go." Her publicist, Melissa Raubvogel, had no comment. Moore said Tuesday that he made the video after a fellow Marine bet he wouldn’t.

Standing on a base in Afghanistan and wearing his uniform and black sunglasses, he says on the 19-second video: "Hey Mila. It’s Sergeant Moore, but you can call me Scott. I just wanted to take a moment out of my day to invite you to the Marine Corps Ball on November 18th in Greenville, N.C., with yours truly. So take a second, think about it and get back to me."

He said that though he has not communicated directly with the actress, "I have heard back from her people."

"I’m very excited about the opportunity to share the experience with Ms. Kunis and would like to thank her for accepting my offer," he said.

The corps’ anniversary ball is one of the most important events on a Marine’s calendar, according to spokeswoman Capt. Kendra Hardesty. Balls are held at bases and less formal celebrations by units in the field to mark the Nov. 10, 1775, founding of the branch.

Balls at garrisons are formal affairs, following a ceremony established in 1952. At each ball, the Marine Corps commandant’s birthday message is read, along with a 1921 order issued by Maj. Gen. John A. Lejeune summarizing the tradition and mission of the corps.

After that, a cake-cutting ceremony is held in which the first piece is presented to the guest of honor, and then to the oldest Marine present, who in turn passes it to the youngest Marine present.

"This ball will be special not only because of Mila, but also because we will have recently returned from our deployment to Afghanistan," Moore said. He also served in Iraq in 2009.

Kunis won’t be the first celebrity to attend a Marine birthday ball. Other Hollywood stars who’ve attended over the years include action film actor Chuck Norris and R. Lee Ermey, a retired Marine whose most famous role was an intense drill instructor in the film ‘Full Metal Jacket.’

But that is a small workload compared to Constance Jablonski, who walked for an impressive 83 designers in the past year alone. That is in addition to appearing on 46 magazine covers.

Lara Stone, the Dutch-born model wife of comedian David Walliams, ranked third in the list, but due to her contract with Calvin Klein, her appearances have been fewer than her peers, with only two runway shows and 47 magazine covers.

Danish model Freja Beha Erichsen is one of the industry’s most popular names, having landed high-profile campaigns for Chanel and Valentino. In addition to appearing on 65 different covers and in 51 shows, she also starred in a short film by Karl Lagerfeld.

Melbourne-born Abbey Lee Kershaw rounds out the top five. She has also modelled for Chanel, as well as Tom Ford, and has been hailed Australia’s biggest model export since Elle Macpherson.
