Slumdog Millionaire wins Screen Actors Guild Awards 2009 for best cast

The 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were handed out Sunday night, and Slumdog Millionaire took home the film ensemble award.

The nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced on December 18th, 2008 and the ceremony took place on Sunday, January 25th, 2009.

The stars of Slumdog Millionaire were named best cast in a movie at the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards 2009.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards is another Hollywood award for Slumdog Millionaire, which is set in Mumbai.

After winning awards at both the Critic's Choice and the Golden Globes, the film, directed by Danny Boyle, can now expect to add to its collection at the Oscars, having been nominated for ten categories.

Leading its cast to collect The Screen Actors Guild trophy, actor Anil Kapoor said: "It was already enough to be nominated, to win this is unbelievable, it is unbelievable." He thanked Boyle before dedicating the award to the child stars of the movie.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards was given to Slumdog Millionaire for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Dev Patel, the 18-year-old British star of Slumdog Millionaire was also nominated for the best supporting actor title, but lost out to the late actor Health Ledger.

  1. Wonder what's so big about the movie, other than that it ruthlessly blows up the underbelly of Mumbai as India itself.
